Everyone in life wants to be successful; however the meaning of success varies from one person to another. Some people define success as getting straight A’s, while others define success by finally going out with that blazing hot girlfriend that everybody wishes they can have. We all fight minor battles everyday working towards our goal of obtaining success. What if I told you there were three simple ways to guarantee yourself success in any category of life you wanted. If you applied these three simple methods in your life, you will see dramatic differences and it will help you reach your goals and be successful. I’ll get to how to do that in a little bit, but first listen to this.
One day as I thought to myself about all the things I wanted to accomplish in life, another thought popped in head saying, how are you going to actually achieve these goals you set out for yourself? It’s crazy because we set goals all the time but for the most part we never accomplish them. Think about how many people set New Year’s resolutions this year. I guarantee you most of the people broke their resolutions for one reason or another. We are human; we tend to do things like that.
During a Padre’s baseball game last summer I met a guy in the parking lot and somehow we started talking about school, girls, and how the Padres were making San Diego look bad with their horrible play. We had a very interesting conversation but towards the end of the conversation he started to get very intellectual with me. He began asking what I wanted to be and how I was going to accomplish that goal. When I answered his questions he answered back by giving me three simple methods that he said will guarantee me success in my life. When he finished talking to me he gave me a $50 bill and got into his Rolls-Royce Phantom and his driver drove him away. Since that talk I have been using these methods ever since and I have been starting to see success in my life as well, but enough about me, let’s start talking about these methods.
1st Method – STOP PROCRASTINATING:
As humans we always find reasons to hold things off and wait to the last minute to do it. If you want to lose weight you tell yourself you will start going to the gym next week or if you want that dream girl you tell yourself you are going to wait till you’re rich before you approach her. To be honest I have heard some outrageous excuses people use to validate why they are procrastinating in their particular situation. These habits are not good because the more we procrastinate the more we see the quality of our work sink or we don’t ending up working towards our goals altogether. I guarantee someone that studies two weeks before a test is going to do better than someone that studies two days before a test. We have to learn to do things we don’t feel like doing at the moment, which brings me to my next point.
2nd Method – STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE:
This is probably one of the hardest things for us to do. Stepping out of our comfort zones gives us that nervous feeling that gives us goosebumps, causes our hearts to beat faster, and makes us sweat profusely. If we can learn to use this energy as a positive instead as a negative, we can see substantial success in our life. How do you think professional athletes feel when they are about to play in a game? They get that same nervous feeling before their games, but they don’t go in the locker room and not play because they are feelings these symptoms, they use that energy to go out there and perform to the best of their abilities. We have to learn from that and apply that into our lives. How do you think Bill Gates got rich? He didn’t sit at home all day waiting for an opportunity to be rich. He stepped out of his comfort zone and made an opportunity for himself to become rich. Stepping out of your comfort zone is one of the most important mindsets to have because it separates lazy people from the go getters. This method might be hard at first but you have to learn to persevere, which brings me into my last method.
3rd Method – USE FAILURE AS A TIME TO LEARN:
If we can learn to use rejection and elimination as a learning experience we will see dramatic change in our lives. How we view things effect the outcome of our situations. For example, we have all heard that quote,” Is the glass half empty or half full?” Our perception on circumstances can help us obtain success. Michael Jordan put it best in this quote, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” This is coming from a six time NBA Champion and arguably the best basketball player to ever play the game. We all face failure, but it is how we respond to it that separates us from defeat or accomplishing our goals.
In conclusion, think about your goals and apply these simple methods to accomplish them. If you want that dream girl or dream guy, approach them. If you want that sexy body, don’t hesitate and start working out. I want you to remember that time is the most valuable thing we have in this life. I don’t want you to be one of those people that always say, “If I can go back in time I would of did things a whole lot differently.” Instead I want you to say, “If I can go back in time I wouldn’t change a thing.”
